Part of Frontier, deep down, was a little worried about how Gold Foot would react. So seeing him friendly and smiling was a good sign, even giving him a headpat like his other brothers would so kindly give him.
"Yeah!" He spoke gently, a little shy, but it was clear he meant well, giving a sweet smile that could melt the coldest of hearts. "I'm Silver Frontier, but just call me Frontier for now. I don't know about keeping the Silver part anymore."
Following the other inside, he rummaged through the bag he had. Inside were a few different objects. A few of them were soft and fluffy, others were more hard and rigid. The soft ones ranged in looking like a few creatures, a thing in various shades of brown with round audials, black optics, and big, thick pedes and servos that were all one shape of fabric, and a small brown ball on the back. Another soft one was another thing, a pure stark white with triangular audials with pink inner parts and a triangular nose, blue optics, a smaller set of servos and pedes, and a long thing on the back. The harder things were also various things, a thing with a big head, sharp teeth, and tiny arms, another thing with three spikes on it's face and four pedes, another with a very long head and two very long arms...
There were even more in the bag he had, but they were the first ones he pulled out. He nudged the soft white thing into Gold Foot's arms.
"I was given a few of these things, for stimulation...But I don't know what they are or what they're used for..." Frontier spoke, inspecting the brown soft thing he was given. "They don't seem to be used for baseball training..."
Silver Frontier. Now that niggled something in his memory banks. He couldn't pin down what it was, as he so often couldn't, but it was familiar in a way that made him flag it to follow up on later. The name was familiar, but he didn't know why.
Brushing it aside for the moment, Foot instead looked down at the cat plush he had been handed by the little one. He blinked, slow and confused, and then looked back at Frontier with a small hum.
Oh. Frontier didn't know what they were for. He... hadn't been taught his animals? Usually that was a data pack everyone was installed with. Or maybe Foot knew because of his soldier packs? That would be something to discuss with Rung, perhaps. Just more questions that he didn't know if he wanted the answers to.
(He did want the answers. He was tired of being in the dark. Even if it hurt to learn them.)
"You handed me a cat." He gestured with the stuffed animal, using one hand to lift the paw and gently bap Frontier on the top of his head with it. "You don't know any of the animals?" He had to confirm that, just to get a baseline for what knowledge Frontier didn't have.
"You are correct though. They are not for baseball training. They are toys, meant for enrichment and to help grow your individuality, and, in turn, your inner spirit. Play is important. It teaches you to go beyond your limits in safe ways that will not harm your frame or mind."
There was a small "oof" from being bapped by the plush creature Gold Foot held. "I don't think I've ever been taught any animals before. I remember seeing things around sometimes, but not sure what they were or what their purpose was. I was told it wasn't anything to worry about."
Frontier picked up the brown creature in his arms and gave Gold Foot a gentle bap on the soccer leauger's face in return. "Is this a cat too? I think they might also be called kitties sometimes too..."
Oh Asimov please get this mech his basic knowledge patch...
Frontier thought deeply for a moment, thinking.
"No wonder I was confused about these," He comments softly, inspecting some of the harder, plastic animals as well. "I'd sometimes see stuff like this in the store, even little mechs that could turn into vehicles and stuff, but Silver Justice would always say no. It would interfere with my focus on training."
"A lot of these were from Mask and a few others, but this one is actually from Silver Gallant," He holds up the soft brown, round eared cat with the large servos and beady black optics. "He just told me to make sure I never tell Justice about it. I feel unsafe when I don't have this with me..."
The ground rocked and debris flew everywhere. A̶̧̜̦̝͈̱̦͈̫͆̈́͋́͒͗̓̈́̀͐͗́̒̕͝͝n̸̡̗͙̱̜̰͖̆́̀͜͝i̵͔̼̗̣̭̺̬̪̖̥̥̩͓̊̾̓̂͛͋̈̈́̓̓͒̎̔͌͆͗͘ͅķ̷̡̲̹̯̘̲͔͙̩͚̱͕̤͎̿͆̊͆̎͆́̈̂̊̂͗̔̌̚͜i̸̛̥͆̒̅̑̑͜ ̸̡̛͈̭̱̳͚̱̤̿̏̀̿́̊̎̅̄̐̚Î̴̡̧̧̪͉̬͓̠̣̳̳͇̲͙́̍͛̑̃̓̑̿̈̇͘͠'̸̻̺̲̣̥̬̬͙̬̯̐̏m̸͙͚̽͆̈́̔́̄̔̈̂͘͘͝͝ ̶̢̼̼̫̪̟̘͔̆̊̅ͅs̴̢̧͔̯̞̺͎̝̞̩̤̽̿̎̌̈̓͜ͅc̶̩̥̰͓̜̠͌͌̐̓̑̂̕͘͠a̸̧̧̨̧̛̪̳̭̺̺̥̤͋̉̉̾̉̌̄̆͌̾̇͊͝ŗ̵̛̤͈̞͙̭̯̯͌̀ͅè̶̡̨̜̘̲͔̓̂̆̂͜͠d̴̨͙͉̺̰̠̥͇͎͇̎̈́͌̌̌̕͝͝
Foot blinked rapidly, forcibly shaking himself from his thoughts. Now was not the time or place.
He took a minute to swallow, to steady the hitch in his vents.
"That one you're holding is called a bear." His tone is surprisingly level for having fought off that memory spin. "Teddy bear is another name for it. And yes, cats are sometimes called kitties. Or kittens. The babies are called kittens anyway."
He settled on the ground. "Why don't you spread what you have out and I can help you name all of them, hm? I don't have much information on some of these, but I at least know their names."
Frontier stood still as Gold Foot tried to get back his bearings. It would be okay, he would be okay, he was just probably remembering something scary.
It made him wonder, were his former brothers scary when he wasn't around? Did they do stuff Frontier wasn't aware of?
"Newbuilts are like kitties then, right?" Frontier asked once he was pretty sure Gold Foot was out of his trance, nudging the cat closer to Foot. "This one kinda looks like you, though that would mean it's definitely a cat and not a kitty. Since you're not a newbuilt like me."
Though his big audials perked at the idea of learning more animals, going through the bag he brought in. He hoped none of them would break when pouring them out, as a wide range of creatures and vehicles, and figures all came out in every color of the rainbow and those beyond. Some were soft, others hard, some had buttons that made an arm or leg go up or down.
"Will that help?" Frontier asked, trying to organize each creature by similar color.
Foot laughed softly as Frontier scooted the cat plush closer. He picked it up, looking into the soft, plush face of the cat, and gave a small hum. "I suppose it does look a little similar."
He could accept being similar to a cat. Cats were independent and loyal and _sharp_. He liked having those qualities.
He set it down next to him and leaned forward to help Frontier sort the various toys. Once they were sorted by color, he further separated them into mammal and not mammal.
"These," he said, gesturing towards the left side of each pile, "are mammals. This is a dog, and another bear. This one is plastic instead of plush, so it looks more like a real bear."
He pointed next to some of the green dinosaurs. "That, I believe, is a tyrannosaurus rex, or a T-Rex for short. It's a dinosaur. These creatures were extinct on Earth, meaning they all died off a long time ago. These toys are what humans _think_ they looked like based on skeletons and fossils."
Huh. Apparently he remembered more about animals than he thought. Did he once teach Mask these things to? He'd have to ask Arm.
“You can keep the soft cat,” Frontier beamed happily, holding up his bear and having it touch the face of the cat. “Mask told me you sometimes remember bad and scary things. When I get scared I hug my bear, since it is soft and I like soft. Maybe hugging the cat will help with that too?”
Sorting through all the toys had the newbuilt intrigued and filled with so many questions.
“Is this a dinosaur too?” He holds up one of the reptiles, one with a very long neck. “If dinosaurs still existed, I think this one would be great to help at the library. So many books on baseball I can’t reach…”
Curious servos picked up an oddity among the toys, a simple toy car. “Hmmm, don’t think this is an animal. Unless it is. I hear a lot of those big mechs on board can turn into cars and trains and stuff.”
Foot softens without realizing it. Mask would warn Frontier that sometimes he gets a little... well. Like he was. He's glad the newbuilt had warning of Foot's episodes.
"I do, sometimes," he said softly. "Thank you, Frontier. I will cherish it."
Into his lap went the cat plush. He would have to be careful to not hurt it with his claws.
"That one with the long neck is part of... I think the sauropod family. There's a lot of different long neck dinosaurs. I'm not sure which that one is specifically, but someone at the library might know. And if there are books you want to read but can't reach, you can always ask the librarian to get them for you."
He smiled and leaned forward a little more to look at the car Frontier picked up. "You're right. That one isn't an animal. That's a car, or a vehicle. It's mechanical, like you and I, but not alive. The Cybertronians do have 'alternate modes' where they can turn into something similar, though I've also heard that some Cybertronian's take an animal form. It's... interesting how their schematics are so different but... I suppose that's what happens when you're part of a biomechanical race."
He tipped his head a little and picked up what looked like a tractor, spinning it in his hands before putting it on the ground and gently rolling it towards Frontier. "Ones like this are used for farm equipment. I don't know much about them. I didn't interact much with farm life."
Listening intently to every word Foot was saying, Frontier felt like he was learning a lot. A ton of very interesting information he had never learned before.
“I wonder if any cybertronians turn into dinosaurs. Can they do that? I think that would be neat to see,” Frontier pondered, looking over the identified Sauropod and car. “I know there was a nice old cybertronian guy named Megatron who helped me at the library. We talked about baseball since he had human friends that knew a lot.”
Looking over the tractor, he picked it up, alongside looking through the pile of toys thinking deeply in his newbuilt mind. “It’s okay if you don’t know much about farm life…”
One of the toys was something not a mammal, with huge wings, horns, and claws. It must be some kind of dinosaur given how it was scaly like them. There was a button on the back of the beast that made the wings move up and down. “What kind of dinosaur is this…?”
He looked at the tractor and the large beast, hesitantly seating the beast into the tractor. “Is this allowed? I wasn’t allowed to have many toys. Justice said they’re a distraction and things like sparkly dolls with fluffy hair and dinosaurs are illogical. He’s stupid I think.”
What a delightfully kind child. Dark would have strangled that out of Frontier without mercy or worry. Being kind was a luxury. Being nice was a weakness.
He is glad that Dark no longer has its hands on Frontier.
"I believe there is one Cybertronian that turns into a dinosaur. I heard of one named Grimlock. They're supposedly a t-rex." He tapped on the t-rex figurine. "Like this."
He smiled as Frontier continued, putting the dragon on top of the tractor. "That one with the wings is a dragon. It's a fantasy creature, like unicorns, from our universe. Who knows if they exist here or not, but they could... anyway. You can put the dragon anywhere you like. On the tractor, riding a horse, drinking tea... The world is your sandbox."
His optics crinkled at the edges as he picked up the cat plush he'd been gifted, only to set it on top of one of the sauropod dinosaurs. "Miss Kitty is a dinosaur tamer. She rides around on this guy." He had a few stronger words for what Justice was, but he didn't need to voice those in front of Frontier. "What about your guy? What's the dragon going to do?"
Listening intently, a small joyful "Oooh!" could be heard when he heard about the cybertronian that could turn into a T-rex. That sounded so cool! Perhaps one day they could meet, and maybe he would be nice.
Truly an innocent soul, newbuilts were commonly choked out of their joy and innocence to be funneled through a cruel, cruel pipeline. But he wasn't a part of that, not anymore. Now he could play with as many toys as he wanted, and no force in the universe could stop him without having to go through hell.
"Oh...Hmmm..." Frontier thought for a moment, looking at the dragon. "Well, Greenwings is a uh. Farmer...he's friends with..." He reached over to the pile of animals, grabbing a plush cow that was quite a bit bigger than the dragon and tractor. "This cow, Fluffy Ears. Fluffy ears is the size of a T-rex, but is nice."
"Fluffy Ears and Miss Kitty's dinosaur are friends. Not sure what Greenwings would do, he just likes to farm potatoes."
